Consultations
While a large portion of my job has a hands-on component (acquiring and preparing sheet music, which I can do that with my eyes closed at this point in my career), you’d be surprised at the major role public speaking plays in not only the day-to-day responsibilities, but even winning a librarian job.
I know what it’s like to have the hands-on skills to do the job of your dreams but the inability to express yourself and articulate why you are the person they want to hire (a.k.a the dreaded “interview!”). I also know what it’s like to freeze up when speaking to a room full of people, whether you know them or not!
It is no fun. And it can be embarrassing.
I’ve spent years reading, studying, and practicing how to become better at speaking in public settings, whether it’s an interview for a job or a professional presentation, and the time I invested in improving has worked! Now, I’d like to use my knowledge to help you so you don’t have to learn everything the hard way like I did!
Here are some things I can be of help with in a one-on-one setting:
Interview Preparation
Public Speaking Guidance/Tips & Tricks
(Ceremonial: think “special occasions”; demonstrative: think “explaining/teaching others how to do something”
Music Preparation Services*
(Bowings, performance specific markings transfers/additions, page turn fixes)
*please note that this service is offered when my schedule allows*
And just who am I?
Since 2011, I’ve been a frequent presenter/moderator on assorted conference panels and summits, as well as serving as guest lecturer at summer festivals and universities. I not only enjoy helping others in their career development but I also enjoy crafting talks/presentations that serve that purpose! In one-on-one settings, I love sharing my tips and tricks for speaking in public and helping people learn how to feel confident expressing themselves when speaking in public settings (presentations, interviews, speeches etc.).
"Nicole Jordan is a masterful and compelling speaker on the world of orchestral libraries. As Principal Librarian of The Philadelphia Orchestra, she oversees the iconic, and perhaps most renowned orchestra library in the world. Nicole's knowledge and command of the history, practice, and intricacies of this industry are often to me, revelatory. She is also a wonderfully entertaining, personal, and colorful speaker who can easily regale any audience with ease."

How are you so good at speaking in public? To quote Allen Iverson, “Practice.” Public speaking is a part of our everyday lives. We have to talk to people outside of our homes every day, right? (I mean, honestly, if I didn’t have to I wouldn’t but, I digress…). Public speaking is only as easy as we make it, and we can only make it easy by practicing (and with someone to help guide us along the way *winky face emoji*).

What will we cover in our conversation? That depends entirely on you! After we get pleasantries out of the way, I’ll start by asking you what your goals are. From there, I listen. Because my end goal at the end of our time together is to not only help you find the path for your goals but to also reach them!
